The Inherited Belief

Brand identity and creative direction for an editorial publication exploring folklore, superstition, and inherited beliefs, including a distinctive visual system, original brand characters, and editorial design concepts.

The Inherited Belief is an independent editorial publication exploring folklore, superstition, ritual, and the beliefs passed down through generations.

The project brings together historical research, cultural storytelling, and an atmospheric visual identity to create a distinctive digital publication. Inspired by antique curiosity cabinets, archival collections, and the enduring mystery of inherited traditions, its creative direction balances intellectual curiosity with a sense of discovery.

The result is an editorial world designed to make complex cultural subjects approachable, visually compelling, and memorable—while preserving the historical and human context behind every story.

What We Did

The creative work for The Inherited Belief encompasses brand identity development, art direction, editorial design, and digital publication planning.

The project includes the development of a distinctive visual language, combining antique-inspired imagery, symbolic objects, layered textures, expressive typography, and a carefully selected color palette.

The website design extends this identity into a cohesive editorial experience, with a structured content hierarchy, thematic storytelling sections, and visual elements that support exploration and discovery.

Together, these elements establish a recognizable creative identity designed to evolve alongside the publication and its growing collection of stories.

Cosmo & Mira began with a wonderfully simple creative request: “I want a cat somewhere in the website's homepage design.”

What started as a small decorative idea gradually evolved into two original characters with their own personalities and a place within The Inherited Belief's visual universe.

Their development illustrates the more spontaneous side of the creative process—how an unexpected detail can grow into a recognizable and enduring part of a brand's identity.

Design / Approach

The visual direction for The Inherited Belief draws inspiration from historical curiosity cabinets, antique archives, folklore collections, and the symbolic objects associated with centuries of human belief.

Rather than relying on conventional supernatural imagery, the design embraces an atmosphere of discovery through carefully layered compositions, vintage illustrations, botanical details, aged textures, and objects that suggest stories waiting to be uncovered.

Elegant serif typography introduces a literary and historical character, while clean contemporary typography provides balance, clarity, and readability. A palette of deep teal, warm cream, turquoise, brass, and terracotta brings richness and warmth to the editorial experience.

The overall approach balances mystery with credibility, creating a visual identity that feels immersive without becoming theatrical. Every design decision supports the publication's central purpose: exploring the extraordinary beliefs woven into ordinary human life.

Cosmo & Mira provide a playful counterpoint to the publication's historical and atmospheric aesthetic. Their presence is intended to remain selective and purposeful, allowing them to appear naturally within illustrations and occasional stories without distracting from the publication's research-driven editorial identity.

Results / Outcome

The Inherited Belief has been developed into a distinctive editorial brand with a cohesive visual identity, defined creative direction, and a scalable digital publication concept.

The project establishes a recognizable aesthetic that brings together historical inspiration and contemporary editorial design. Its visual system provides a foundation for website content, storytelling collections, and future digital and print applications.

The outcome is a carefully developed brand and publication framework that demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform a complex subject into an engaging, accessible, and visually memorable experience.
